A Maldivian refugee escapes persecution to become one of New Zealand's most iconic drag queens.
This short doumentary by director Roberto Nascimento was produced for Radio New Zealand's "Wireless Docs" series. The film tells the story of Abraham Naim - a Maldivian refugee who escaped persecution for being gay in their home country, and has since become one of New Zealand's premiere drag performers, by the name of Medulla Oblongata.
Working closely with Roberto, we produced, shot, and edited Medulla Oblongata, which debuted on Radio New Zealand's "The Wireless" platform, and went on to screen in several overseas festivals - including winning Best LGBTIQ Short Documentary at SPLICE Film Fest in 2018.
